LOWELL, Mich. — Just months after historic flooding washed through the Kent County Fair Grounds, the Kent County Youth Fair is set to get underway.
It was a busy off-season for fair board president Jon Bieneman and his staff as they had to make a number of repairs in order to get things in shape for this year’s event.
“There is always a concern when you look at a task that large that has to be done,” Bieneman said. “But we were able to work through the summer and put everything back together and in working order.”
The biggest challenge was replacing tons of clay and sand that washed away from the competition arena and horse barns. But thanks to some private donations the job got done.
And just in time. Opening ceremonies took place Sunday night.
Highlights of the fair include activities and educational experiences for kids. Events run each day from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday, Aug 5, through Saturday, August 10.
