HOLLAND, Mich — A 55-year-old Holland man is expected to be arraigned on felonious assault charges on Friday after apparently threatening public safety officers with a handgun.

Officers started looking for him around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, after hearing that he threatened his ex-girlfriend, and has a history of making suicidal comments.

Finally, the suspect’s family member noticed his empty vehicle in a parking lot near 9th Street and College Avenue. The man then approached officers with a gun, though he never directly pointed it at them.

There was a brief chase followed by a standoff, but after about 20 minutes, he surrendered and was arrested.

You may have noticed some road closures during this incident. They included 8th, 9th and College, and the streets were closed for about 45 minutes.
