NEWAYGO COUNTY, Mich. – The Newaygo County Sheriff Department continues to search for 31-year-old Christopher James O’Connor. He went missing on Saturday, July 20, while on a tubing trip with family members down the Muskegon River.
The group started their trip at Croton Dam and was set to end at the Thornapple access, but at some point in between family members noticed O’Connor was no longer with the group. Family members say there was an altercation with another group along the way and a physical fight broke out and then Christopher continued on the tube.
On Sunday, July 21 the Michigan State Police helicopter along with officers from the Michigan DNR searched a 7 mile stretch of the Muskegon River and its banks while the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Dive Team searched a one mile stretch of the Muskegon River.
O’Connor is described as 5’11”, 190 lbs, with black hair and a beard.
