Murder Charges After Police Say Homeless Man Was Stabbed To Death

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -Open murder is one charge against 68-year-old David Eaton who is accused of stabbing 52-year-old Steve Spadorcia to death with a box cutter.

On Thursday, July 19th, Eaton was arraigned in Kent County District Court.  Eaton appeared in Court via video from the jail.  He is charged with open murder, carrying a dangerous weapon, and being a repeat offender.

As the judge read Eaton his rights in court, the accused interrupted her, “I said can I make a comment?” He asked the judge.

He went on to say, “I would like to get my own attorney.  These court appointed attorneys just sell you butt right down the tubes.”

His alleged victim, Spadorcia, was found early Thursday morning behind a building in the 600 block of Bridge Street in Downtown Grand Rapids.

The judge said for now Eaton will remain in jail on no bond.  He is due back in court on August 1st.
