STANTON, Mich. — A 26-year-old Greenville man pleaded no contest to second-degree child abuse as a second-time habitual offender Friday.
Benjamin Wilkins admitted to abusing 2-year-old Brooklyn Weimer who was taken to the hospital in April with life-threatening abdominal injuries and lacerations on her liver, among other injuries.
Weimer’s mother, 26-year-old Samantha Slater, also faced first-degree child abuse charged, but they were dismissed in May. Wilkins was dating Slater when the abuse ocurred. He will be sentenced in six to eight weeks, and he remains incarcerated at the Montcalm County Jail.
