Paint Fumes Cause Temporary Chemical Panic at Grand Rapids Subway

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids Firefighters responded to an “unknown chemical situation” at the Subway located at 100 Wealthy St. SE.  Upon investigation, responders discovered that the smell was paint fumes coming through the ventilation system from a next door business.

Officials briefly characterized it as a HAZMAT situation before discovering the source of the fumes.  The store was evacuated and closed during the incident, but no one was taken to the hospital.
