GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — A healing center for grieving children will open its doors for the first time in West Michigan on Thursday, June 27.

Ele’s Place first opened in 1991, in honor of a little girl named Ele who died, leaving behind four siblings who had to deal with a lot of grief. Today, there are already Lansing and Ann Arbor locations, and now the Grand Rapids location will be the third.

It took months of fundraising, including from Sue Snyder, Michigan’s first lady.

Ele’s Place welcomes children ages 3-18, and they can attend at no cost. The center is looking for volunteers who can commit to at least nine months of work, as well as a variety of office supplies and toys for the children.
