GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — David John Walkowiak will be installed as the 12th bishop of the Diocese of Grand Rapids later today.
The Ohio native has served the Cleveland area since he became a priest in 1979.
Walkowiak will lead 82 parishes, 30 schools and 182,000 Roman Catholics in West Michigan. He replaces Bishop Walter Hurley, who has served the Grand Rapids Diocese for the past eight years.
Walkowiak will be installed during a mass at 2 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Andrew. It is also his 60th birthday.
