ALLEGAN, Mich. — A warrant has been issued for the 18-year-old man who allegedly hit a 9-year-old girl at the B-93 Birthday Bash while intoxicated Saturday.
Eric Roberts will be charged with operating while intoxicated and causing serious injury and reckless driving, according to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office.
In his testimony before Allegan County District Court, Capt. Scott Matice said Roberts had a blood alcohol content between .07 and .08. The legal limit in Michigan is .08 for people 21 and over, and .02 for anyone under 21.
“Roberts did drive past several vehicles which were stopped in a line trying to get out of the event and was passing them at a higher rate of speed in the grassy area when he struck the victim,” Matice said.
Jaylynn Hiler, the girl Roberts allegedly hit, was transported to DeVos Children’s Hospital and suffered a fractured pelvis after the incident. She was released from the hospital late Sunday evening.
This wasnt the only incident from Birthday Bash. The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office says they took 157 complaints at the event, 128 people were cited.
In total the Sheriff’s office says deputies arrested 25 people off the property, the majority of the arrests were for drunk driving and fighting.
Michigan State Police say five tickets were issued by troopers for operating while intoxicated. That’s an increase in activity compared to years past but attendance at the birthday bash was also higher, an estimated 70,000 visitors came out last weekend.
