GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park is nominated in a travel website’s search for the “8th Wonder of the World.”
It’s one of more than 200 choices in the search, and the decision depends on voting at VirtualTourist.com. You can vote once per day through Sep. 30, and then a winner will be crowned.
The landmark with the most votes will get a feature on syndicated TV show “Extra” as well as a media relations campaign push from VirtualTourist.
“As an organization, we are humbled and honored to be nominated for such a global acknowledgement,” said David Hooker, the president and CEO.
Meijer Gardens has some big competition, including Bora Bora, the Alhambra palace in Spain, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Badlands National Park in South Dakota.
Other entries are more lighthearted, such as the largest Bass Pro Shop store in Springfield, Missouri. Frankenmuth, which calls itself Michigan’s little Bavaria, is also competing.
