GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Gas prices in many Grand Rapids stations are $4.29 per regular gallon, according to listings on GasBuddy.com.

These further price spikes come on the heels of other raises four days ago that caused long lines at area pumps.  GasBuddy analyst Patrick DeHaan spoke over the phone about West Michigan price increases during that increase.

According to him, a Great Lakes refinery was caught buying gasoline from another refinery to try and fulfill “contractual obligations.”  When word of that transcation spread, the market was spooked. and as a result wholesale gas prices have risen.  It is still undetermined if that is the reason for Wednesday’s nearly 15 cent jump.

The current average price for gas in Grand Rapids is $4.16 per gallon, as some area stations haven’t raised their prices.  However, this is more than 50 cents per gallon higher than the national average of $3.63 per gallon.
