Kelly Laker a special education teacher at Plainwell High School was arrested Thursday. On March 15th he was put on administrative leave, pending a criminal investigation. Parents were notified of the situation Friday.

In a probable cause affidavit, investigators say the relationship was with one of Laker’s students. According to the schools website, Laker is the chair of the special education department.

Last week Laker was arrested on second degree criminal sexual conduct and obstruction of justice. According to court documents Laker contacted the victim the “night before her forensic interview, telling her not to say anything about their contact or relationship.”

During a probable cause hearing, a Plainwell Public Safety investigator said that during the student’s interview with police the student stated it all started when she had test anxiety.

She told police Laker would console her, kissing her on the forehead and lips, she said it would happen in the backroom.

Police say she also told them Laker asked if she would have sex with him. Plainwell Police say the girl’s mom told them she found romantic letters from Laker to her daughter.

Lakers Attorney, Fil Iorio says the charges are denied because they are not true. Iorio says these are only allegations and not facts and the allegations are disputed. “We don’t intend to litiagte this case through the media and Mr. Laker is looking forward to exercising his rights and we expect vindication through the justice system,” he said.

Laker is expected to be arraigned on June 10th.
