HARTFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A car crashed into a Van Buren County home early Thursday morning, sending the driver to the hospital.  When he’s released, he could be facing drunk driving charges.

It happened at around 12:30 a.m. on 60th Street in Hartford Township.  Deputies say a 32-year-old man crashed his Chevrolet Blazer into a home.  It appeared the suspect had never attempted to use his brakes as he lost control of his SUV.

Deputies say the driver was trapped inside and had to be extricated when firefighters arrived on the scene.  He was not wearing a seat belt, and the SUV did not have any airbags.  The vehicle was also believed to have caught fire during the crash.

Witnesses told police that the driver was seen drinking prior to the incident, and deputies also reported he showed signs of having consumed alcohol.  The individual was taken to the hospital where he’s listed in stable condition.

The home sustained severe damage to the walls and foundation.

The case will be forwarded to prosecutors once they get results of the man’s blood alcohol analysis.
