HOLLAND, Mich. — A stretch of I-196 will undergo repaving, and drivers can county on lane closures through July.

The project begins Wednesday with the right lane closed on eastbound and westbound I-196 for bridge work over 96th Avenue. That bridge is just north of Adam Street exit 52. The lane closure will be in effect from 9 a.m. Wednesday until 9 a.m. Friday (May 17).

The resurfacing project gets underway Friday:

  • Friday (5/17) 9 a.m. through Monday (5/20) 6 a.m., right lane closed I-196 eastbound between the Allegan County line (Ottogan Street)
  • Friday 8 p.m. through Monday 6 a.m., right lane closed I-196 westbound between the Allegan County line (Ottogan Street)

After the weekend, lane closures can be expected along that stretch of I-196 in Zeeland and Holland until July 22, with the exception of Memorial Day weekend. During the morning commute, the barrels in the eastbound lanes will be pulled back to open two lanes, and during the afternoon commute, the barrels in the westbound lanes will be removed.

Bridges in the repair zone will also see maintenance work, including concrete patching and other work.
