GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – MDOT has approved the Grand Rapids Downtown Development Authority’s request for an additional $220,000 to cover the cost of the high tech additional lighting for the Blue Bridge.
Kristopher Larson, executive director of the Grand Rapids DDA, made the announcement Monday morning to the DDA’s Environment Action Committee.
The new LED decorative lights will allow the city to change the color of the deck and base of the bridge for special events, turning this historic landmark into a show piece for the city.
Construction and painting will be completed by artprize with the bridge being closed all summer long, starting with the end of classes at GVSU.
