EAST LANSING, Mich — HopCat is spreading its influence to mid-Michigan today with the ground breaking of its next beer bar. In HopCat fashion, it will be anything but ordinary: They’re going to celebrate by planting hops.

HopCat- East Lansing will be located at 300 Grove Street, and today’s events happen at 1:30 p.m. East Lansing mayor Diane Goddeeris will be on hand to plant the hop rhizomes in hop barrels. It’s meant to be a reminder about sustainability and Michigan’s brewing industry.

Grand Rapids’  HopCat has been named among the country’s best beer bars by Beer Advocate magazine, RateBeer.com and CraftBeer.com.

The new location will serve food as well as 100 different craft beers on tap. BarFly Ventures expects to create more than 75 new jobs there, and it will open in late summer.
