BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A city police officer who was place on administrative leave after being suspected of arriving at work drunk was arraigned Tuesday morning on one charged of operating while intoxicated and one charge of possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.
Battle Creek Police officer Jennifer Appl entered a plea of not guilty in 10th District Court and was released on her own recognizance. The proceeding only took a few minutes. A warrant had been issued Monday, and Appl had turned herself in and posted bond.
Michigan State Police were called after fellow officers reported smelling alcohol on Appl’s breath when she showed up for her shift Saturday night. Appl was also involved in an alcohol-related incident where she was a passenger in a drunk driving crash last July that involved another Battle Creek officer.
