Kalamazoo Police Sign Murder Warrant In 1993 Cold Case Homicide

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office issued a two count felony warrant for Felony Murder and Open Murder against Grady Shields Jr., in the 1993 of Lois Cox.

Shields is currently incarcerated with the Michigan Department of Corrections, for an unrelated crime.  Shields will be transported back to Kalamazoo to be arraigned on the 1993 murder of Lois Cox, a 59-year-old Kalamazoo resident, whose vehicle, disappeared from the 900 block of Staples Street in Kalamazoo on October 20th, 1993.

Six days later, her body was found inside her vehicle in the 300 block of South Main St. in Three Rivers, MI.

An autopsy revealed that Lois Cox had died as a result of gun shot wounds and her death was ruled a homicide.

In 2012, the Three Rivers Police Department and the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety began a joint investigation, working tirelessly to identify and apprehend the person or persons, responsible for this crime.

On April 8th, 2013, the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office issued the warrant against Grady Shields Jr., a 43-year-old Kalamazoo resident for the murder.

Shields is expected back to face arraignment on April 24th.
