MARSHALL, Mich. – People who live at a 2-unit rental home were forced to evacuated overnight, after a car hit their residence and took out their gas lines.

It’s the result of an accident that happened at around 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday on E. Michigan Ave in Marshall.  The fire department says a woman was backing out of a nearby driveway, and failed to see an approaching semi.  She managed to back up underneath the trailer as it was passing by.  The rear tires of that trailer then hit her car’s rear-end.  The vehicle spun out of control and hit the home, taking out the gas lines.

Residents had to leave for a short time until crews deemed it safe to go back inside.

Firefighters tell FOX 17 they were surprised nobody was hurt in the accident.  The driver of the car was ticketed.
