Judge Raises Bond After Discovery Of Online Dating Profile

Thirty-two-year-old Jeremy Merithew is back in jail for now after a judge decided to raise his bond to $300,000.

Merithew has HIV and was charged in August with having sex with a man he met online without telling him his status.

That is a felony charge with a maximum sentence of four years in prison.

The victim in this case says he specifically asked Merithew if he had HIV and he told him he didn’t have it.

Merithew was out on bond until we discovered a page this week on Adam4Adam.com that showed a picture of Merithew in the nude with sexual references that appeared to be soliciting sex.

Under the conditions of his old bond, Merithew was ordered not to engage in online communication with anyone for the purpose of arranging meetings for sex.

The judge was able to view the same images before the hearing Wednesday and decided there was enough evidence that indicated Merithew violated the conditions of his $5,000 bond.

Merithew was then given a $300,000 cash bond.

Unless he can come up with $300,000 in cash to post, the judge says he will remain in the Kent County Jail until the matter is settled or he goes to trial.
