LOWELL, Mich. –A scare for residents living near an oil change shop near Lowell Sunday afternoon, after a truck plowed into the side of a building and tried to take off.
Police were called to the business near the intersection of East Fulton and Birmingham just before 5:00 p.m.
Witnesses said the driver of the truck ran into the side of the business, then made repeated attempts to drive the truck from the scene after the airbags had deployed. Police believe the driver’s vision was limited because of the airbags when he nearly hit bystanders and other vehicles in the area.
The driver eventually wrecked the truck, hopping a curb about a block away from the original crash into the building.
The driver of the truck was taken into custody. Police believe the driver was under the influence at the time of the crash.
The driver hasn’t been identified at this time, pending formal charges in the case.
