WEST MICHIGAN — (FOX 17) — It’s not good news for people who enjoy Michigan’s winters, but we have some rain on the way tonight and Friday morning.
The attached image shows an estimate of rainfall amounts from FOX 17’s in-house computer model. As you can see, some areas could get over an inch of rain by Noon Friday. While many people would prefer snow over rain this time of year, the moisture is welcome nonetheless. We ended 2012 with a precipitation deficit of 4.42″, and 2013 is off to a dry start as well.
As colder air moves in Sunday, there could be a little snow in a season that has delivered very meager amounts. As of Thursday afternoon, the snowfall total in Grand Rapids is 9.4 inches, which is almost 28 inches below normal. If tonight’s rain would have been snow instead, many areas would have received over a foot of snow.
