Kwame Kilpatrick Could Be Sent Back To Prison

Posted

DETROIT, Mich — The former mayor of Detroit, currently embroiled in a corruption trial, could be sent back to prison for not reporting a gift of money.

FOX 2 News in Detroit is reporting that, according to authorities, Chicago pastor Corey Brooks gave Kilpatrick $2,000. However, Kilpatrick never reported that gift. Last month, he was apparently caught in a Walmart security camera cashing the wire transfer on the east side of the state. If in fact Kilpatrick did not report receiving the money, that is a possible parole violation.

Officials say he himself kept at least $800, and then he wired about $1,000 to his family in Texas, where they now live. Russ Marlan of the Michigan Department of Corrections says it appears that Kilpatrick purposely cashed the money in Macomb County in an effort to deceive his parole agent. Kilpatrick is still paying restitution after his previous trial, that followed his resignation as mayor four years ago.
