GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Spectrum Health has announced its annual list of the most popular names for babies born at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital.
This year’s list welcomed a new name – Liam. Liam made the top-ten boys name list this year, stealing the spot for first place. Last year, Liam came in at 19.
“43 boys were named Liam this past fiscal year,” said jason Gilliken, measurement and evaluations specialist, Spectrum Health. “Clearly the name, and perhaps its meaning, has resonated with more parents than ever before.”
According to babycenter.com, Liam is an Irish name, meaning “unwavering protector.”
For the fourth time since 2009, Emma took first place for girls. The name was number one in 2009, 2010 and 2012.
The name Emma is German and means “universal.”
According to Spectrum Health, more babies have been born at Butterworth Hospital than at any other hospital in Michigan. They had a total of 7, 161 births in fiscal year 2012.
“For us, giving birth is special,” said Cindy Reistroffer, director of women’s services at Spectrum. “Our goal is to assist parents and families to have the best experience as possible.”
