A suspect is in custody for two robberies at a Whitehall convenience store.

The Whitehall Police Department announced Wednesday that it has a person in custody in connection with two armed robberies at the Admiral gas station in the 1000 block of East Colby Street. The first robbery occurred just before 7 p.m. Christmas Eve when a man entered the store and demanded cash. The suspect fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.

Then just after 7 p.m. Christmas Day a man entered the store again demanding cash. The clerk locked herself in an office and called 9-1-1 as the man took the cash drawer.  On-duty officers were nearby, quickly located the suspect and took him into custody.

A weapon was implied but not seen in both cases. Warrants are being sought from the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office for the man in custody but the case remains under investigation by the Whitehall Police Department.
