It's no secret that the rain we had over the past week ensured that we're above average in terms of rainfall so far this season. Total rainfall in 2020 is running 2.49" above average in Grand Rapids as of this writing, and 3.70" above average in Muskegon.

The wet weather is contributing to an already near-record water level situation on Lake Michigan. One of our viewers, Sam Hankinson, captured the rising water levels over the past four years with a series of pictures taken from a drone. These pictures were taken in Grand Haven at the Harbor Island boat launch where the main access road is now closed.

Although there is no heavy rain forecast over the next 7 days, we are still vulnerable to flooding like what's shown above in the coming months. In fact, the Army Corps of Engineers is forecasting a 2 inch rise in Lake Michigan's water level by June 1, 2020.
