BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Battle Creek St. Philip had to win a fifth set against Mesick in the state semifinal on Thursday to advance to the Tigers' first state final since 2015.
On Saturday in that state championship, the Tigers once again had to play in a fifth set, fending off an Oakland Christian comeback.

St. Phil took the first two sets, 25-8 and 25-15 before Oakland Christian took sets three and four.

However, in the fifth set, St. Phil would prevail 17-15 giving the Tigers their 21st state title in program history.
