The Muskegon football program and head coach Shane Fairfield continue to pump out Division 1 talent as 2021 safety Julius Sims signed with Bowling Green State University during Wednesday's early signing period.

"Most kids don't get an opportunity to sign at a D-1 school, so for me to be able to sign with a D-1 school during a pandemic, it's a blessing," Sims said.

Sims signed outdoors at a park in Muskegon with a few family members around him, who were certainly emotional.

"No one in my family has ever been through something like this," he added, "no male in my family has ever been to college, so this is something new."

The six-foot-two, 185-pound safety will join former Big Red teammates, Billy Roberts and Jordan Porter after they committed and signed during last year's recruiting period.

"That was a big factor in my decision," he added, "those are my guys, definitely Porter, we were on the same side in high school, I used to tap him when I was going on the blitz and he'd make it happen for me."
