PORTAGE, Mich — Members of the Family Fitness in Portage received notification Wednesday just after 4 p.m. they were now members of the YMCA™.
"As of Feb 1st, 2020 the Family Fitness will be moving its membership base to the YMCA™s of Kalamazoo..." the email shared with FOX 17 read. The 24 hour fitness facility thanked all its members for their support over the last 15 years but initially gave no reason for the sudden change.
Another notice from the YMCA™ of Greater Kalamazoo shed a little more light on the issue welcoming its new members, saying the Portage location is closing its doors.
Portage Family Fitness said via their Facebook just after 9:30 p.m. their building was sold to a local church, citing an inability to provide the classes and space expected by their members. The Portage location assures their members the YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo will be able to handle their fitness needs and thanked them for their patronage.
"...our ability to accommodate 300 plus daily work outs was a real challenge..." the post read, calling providing parking a "daunting task."
