12-hour stand off ends peacefully

WYOMING, Mich. — UPDATE: After half a day, a stand off in Wyoming ended with a peaceful surrender.

Wyoming Police told FOX 17 the man was holding a knife to his own throat when they arrived. He then took the 51 year-old woman living with him hostage. Grand Rapids police and negotiators assisted Wyoming PD as the hours ticked by. Crisis negotiators were able to convince the 42 year-old Wyoming man to come out of the house safely.

The man is being held in the Kent County Jail. The woman was no hurt and has been reunited with family.

Police are responding today to an active standoff at a Wyoming home.

The situation started at around 8:30 a.m. as a domestic call, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department.

It is happening in the area of Jefferson Avenue and Abbie Street.

Two people are inside the home, one of them being a man patrolling the interior.

GRPD is assisting in the situation.

Police said no one is in immediate danger, including the public, as of Tuesday afternoon.
