LEACHVILLE, Ark. — A tornado has reportedly ripped through a nursing home, killing one person and injuring five others in Arkansas.

Craighead County Judge Marvin Day initially told KAIT-TV that two people died, but later confirmed there was one fatality. Day said 20 people were trapped after the tornado struck the Monette Manor area. However, Day said they were rescued.

Officials told KARK, the NBC affiliate in Little Rock, that the roof of the nursing home collapsed and other buildings in the town suffered damage.

Mississippi County Sheriff Dale Cook also informed KAIT-TV that another person was killed in Leachville due to the tornado. He added that the First Baptist Church in Leachville is now a safe zone for people impacted by the tornado.

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and Sen. Tom Cotton addressed the dangerous weather on Twitter. They were encouraging those in the area to stay vigilant.
