GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids Children’s Museum doors have been closed for months, but its latest project the Kids Can! Van will bring the benefits of the museum directly to Grand Rapids children.

The van was originally supposed to launch in March, but was pushed back due to the Cover-19 pandemic. It just so happens the concept works perfectly in the current climate of the world.

The newly-designed full size cargo van will carry small exhibits, activities and encourage kids to play and learn.

It was named by Jodi Rector, a Hudsonville mom who won a statewide competition.

The van is currently under construction to hold programming, small exhibits and hands-on activities.

For now, the van will distribute play at home kits to 1,250 children across Grand Rapids.

The kits include things like chalk, bubbles, jump ropes, books and markers so children can play at home and outside while the museum is temporarily closed.
