KENTWOOD, Mich. — A teenager was found dead Thursday morning after a suspected hit and run crash along a busy road in Kentwood.
Family identified the victim as 17-year-old Stephon Harris.
He was found lying near the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Hardwick Street during the morning rush hour on May 7, hours after he was likely hit. Detectives believe Harris was hit by a vehicle that did not report the crash or stay at the scene.
The crash likely happened late on Wednesday night, between 10 and 11 p.m. Harris' body was not reported to police until hours later on Thursday.
The Kentwood Police Department later shared it is searching for a dark-colored SUV that likely is damaged to the front and passenger side of the vehicle, potentially missing the passenger-side mirror.
Because of the high volume of traffic on Eastern Avenue, police believe there could be a number of potential witnesses.
