PAW PAW, Mich. — Michigan State Police will increase patrol on I-94 for this weekend’s wintry mix of rain, ice and snow. They’re asking drivers to prepare for the weather as well.

“If you’re going to be traveling on the roadway, one of the most important things you can do is slow down,” said MSP Sgt. Andrew Jeffrey during an interview at the Paw Paw Post. “The number one cause of all traffic accidents in the winter time is driving too fast for conditions.”

Sgt. Jeffrey added that it’s best drivers give themselves enough stopping room between themselves and the vehicles in front of them should they need to make an abrupt stop.

“Also if you’re going to go see family or friends or go to work whatever, let people know where you’re going,” Sgt. Jeffrey said. “Maybe give them route and what time you’re expected to be there that way in case you don’t show up maybe they might start calling to see where you’re at.”
