No injures in Calhoun County road rage incident

PENNFIELD CHARTER TWNP., Mich. — One Batte Creek resident has been lodged in the Calhoun County jail for a number of charges after a road rage incident that occured earlier this morning.

Sunday morning around 10:30 a.m., the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department Pennfield detachment was dispatched to the area of Morgan Road and Purdy Drive for a report of an in-progress road rage incident, where a 70-year-old man pulled out a handgun and discharged it in the air while moving before pointing it at a 42-year-old.

A traffic stop was conducted a few blocks away near Taylor and Miller Avenue where the suspect was detained at gunpoint without incident.

No injuries occurred in the feud between the men, who were both local Battle Creek residents. The 9 mm semi-auto handgun was recovered as evidence.

The 70-year-old male subject was lodged at the county jail for discharging a weapon while operating a motor vehicle, reckless discharge of a firearm and felonious assault.

Units on scene were assisted by deputies from our Springfield detachment, along with the Battle Creek City Police Department.
