SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. — A new splashpad in South Haven is officially open.

Officials held a ribbon cutting Thursday morning for the attraction.

Located near South Beach, it’s meant to be a safe alternative for young children when Lake Michigan’s wave conditions make it too dangerous, according to a news release.

The pad’s design resembles the Friend’s Good Will, a replica of an 1800s sailing schooner featured in South Haven’s Michigan Maritime Museum. Local elementary school students voted on the theme.

The South Haven Community Foundation and Rotary Club of South Haven supported the splashpad’s construction. Organizers also received a grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund.
