GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A West Michigan native has died after a battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Dominic Minidis died Sunday night in a hospital room filled with loved ones, according to family. He was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis at the age of 22. Most people who are diagnosed are in their 40s.

Despite his diagnosis, Minidis tried to maintain a positive attitude about the journey ahead of him. He and his family moved near Detroit to be closer to the ALS clinic at the University of Michigan.

Funeral arrangements for Minidis have not yet been finalized.

A GoFundMe page has been made for donations to cover costs.
