The Newaygo County Sheriff's Office arrested two men accused of threatening women with guns in separate incidents.

The first happened around 5:12 p.m. Monday at a home in Grant Township, south of Newaygo. Deputies were called to the area on a report of a woman being held against her will at gunpoint.

When they arrived, a perimeter was set up around the home and the woman was able to escape unharmed. Several hours of negotiations later, the suspect surrended to authorities and was taken to the Newaygo County Jail on charges of assault with intent to murder, being a felon in possession of firearm and assault with a dangerous weapon.

The second incident happened Tuesday morning in Wilcox Township north of White Cloud. Deputies were called after a man threatened to shoot a woman and three children at the house.

Before they arrived, the man had ran away with the gun. Authorities began searching a wooded area nearby and eventually were able to make contact with him on the phone.

The suspect eventually surrendered peacefully and was arrested on charges of first-degree home invasion and four counts of felonious assault.

Both suspects' names are being withheld pending arraignment.
