LANSING — Nearly 300 more Michigan National Guard members have been added to the state's COVID-19 response efforts, officials said Sunday.
The additional Guard members will be deployed to further assist the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services along with local health departments with vaccination and testing efforts.
The state is currently on Phase 1B of the vaccination plan, which allows residents 65 and older vaccinations for the coronavirus.
Guard members will be sent to specific regions of Michigan, including northern Michigan, mid-Michigan, western Michigan, and southeast Michigan.
“As 2021 begins, we are doubling down on our commitment to the safety of Michigan communities by doing everything we can to make this vaccine as accessible as possible,” said U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Paul Rogers, adjutant general and director of the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
