POLKTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 27-year-old Muskegon woman was injured when her car flipped over on Interstate 96 Saturday morning in Ottawa County.
At 5:25 a.m. Saturday, Ottawa County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of a single-car rollover accident on I-96 near 68th Avenue in Polkton Township. The initial report said that the driver was pinned inside the vehicle.
The investigation showed that a 27-year-old woman from Muskegon was driving westbound on the highway when her vehicle left the roadway, hit a cable barrier and overturned. The woman was momentarily trapped in the car but was able to free herself and get out.
The woman told deputies that she fell asleep while driving.
The woman was wearing a seat belt, she was injured and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
