ALLENDALE, Mich. — Citing a “marked improvement” toward fewer cases of COVID-19 at Grand Valley State University, the Ottawa County Health Department let a Staying In Place order expire today and issued a “Staying Safe” order for the school.

The Staying Safe order in effect through October 16, loosens restrictions on gatherings:

  • Up to four persons may visit living units and residences.
  • Aside from classes, gatherings in indoor common areas are limited to four people.
  • Aside from gatherings organized by the school, outdoor gatherings are limited to 10 people.

The requirement for social distancing and face coverings continues: Face coverings must be worn indoors and outdoors unless a student finds themselves outside alone. Students living on campus are also expected to continue to observe established housing guest policies and living standards.

"We appreciate all their hard work and recognize the challenges that GVSU students and staff had to endure,” said OCDPH Health Officer Lisa Stefanovsky of the partnership between the health department and GVSU.
