ZEELAND, Mich. — A man from Zeeland is finding a way to get exercise and visit his baby granddaughter everyday during this time of social distancing.

An Instagram picture of grandpa looking at his 6-week-old granddaughter made headlines across the country.

FOX 17 talked to the baby's father, Joshua Gillett, on Thursday about his daily routine and special way to have some family time.

"He’s been walking at least 4 miles a day, which is about the right route from his house to our house," Joshua said. "It’s a reward for him he says. If he does his exercise, he gets to see his granddaughter so, he’s enjoying it."

Joshua's mom is a local nurse, so the family knows all too well about keeping a safe distance during the pandemic.

"My mom also works at Holland Hospital, so he knows that she’s high risk of being exposed to it almost daily and he knows it puts him at as just as much risk when she comes home,"Joshua said. "So, he just wants to be extra careful and as bad as he wants to hold her, he knows it’s safer to just wait."

For now, grandpa shares sweet greetings with his granddaughter through the window, waiting for the day he can hold her again.
