HOLLAND, Mich. — It's been nearly one month since a young student athlete passed away while playing soccer and now the community is coming together to raise money for the boy's family.

Keaton Kroll, 16, passed away back on November 16 while playing soccer. Kroll had previously been an employee at the Culver's of Holland, 3035 W Shore Dr., which is now hosting a fundraiser for his family.

The fundraiser is planned for Monday, December 9 with 50 percent of sales being donated to Kroll's family.

Kroll was a sophomore at Zeeland East High School where he played soccer on the junior varsity team and one game on Varsity. He also played indoor soccer on the team Zeeland FC and USA Soccer Club.

His mother told The Holland Sentinel that a blood clot traveled from his leg to his lungs while he was on the sideline.

Keaton was known for his big heart and infectious smile.
