MUSKEGON, Mich. — A woman is facing criminal charges for allegedly taking money from a relative who is completely reliant on others.

Katrina Julian, 35, is charged with embezzlement of between $1,000 and $20,000 from a vulnerable adult, a five-year felony. Investigators say she was responsible for the finances of a relative living in a nursing home, including paying her medical bills.

Julian allegedly took thousands of dollars meant for nursing home bills and used it on herself.

Muskegon County prosecutors were made aware of the case by the Tri-County Protection Team, a group of organizations dedicated to protecting senior citizens and other vulnerable people. The prosecutor’s office eventually got the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office involved to investigate.

Muskegon County Assistant Prosecutor Timothy Maat said the Tri-County Protect Team was instrumental in this case and many other they work on.

Julian was arraigned Feb. 13 and has another court date scheduled for March 2.
