MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — A Muskegon man died when the motorcycle he was riding struck a mailbox Sunday morning.

At 7:11 a.m. Sunday, Michigan State Police troopers responded to a report of a motorcycle accident on Holton Road west of Rich Road in Dalton Township. The preliminary investigation showed that a 46-year-old Muskegon man was riding a 2019 GSXR 750 motorcycle westbound on Holton Road when it left the roadway and hit a mailbox on the south side of the roadway.

The rider lost control of the motorcycle, which continued several hundred feet in a grassy ditch before stopping.

Passers-by saw the motorcycle and its rider and notified Muskegon County Central Dispatch.

The motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the MSP Rockford Post.

The rider's name is not being released at this time.

MSP troopers were assisted at the scene by the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office, Dalton Township Fire Department, Promed Ambulance and Stafford's Towing.
