MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — A health care center in Muskegon is helping people find new mental health or substance abuse services to people affected by the upcoming closure of Muskegon Family Care.

People who are receiving those treatments at Muskegon Family Care can call HealthWest at 231-720-3200 to get help finding services within Muskegon County. People who call HealthWest are asked to identify if they are a former patient of MFC.

The closing center says it will continue to provide care for patients through March 31. Patients who need their records transferred to another provider will have go to Muskegon Family Care to authorize it.

Confusion on the closure started after the center terminated some employees because of financial issues. The interim CEO said the terminations were necessary to sustain services there while it winds down operations.

Muskegon Family Care is being investigated for reports of embezzlement by Michigan State Police. Authorities said there is no indication the embezzlement is impacting patients there.
