FREMONT, Mich. — Police in Fremont say a black bear was hit and killed over the weekend.

It happened around 5 a.m. Sunday on west 48th Avenue, near where the road curves and turns into S Gordon Avenue.

We're told someone hit it with their car and the bear died from its injuries.

You'll remember this also recently happened back in April in Kent County, on I-96 near Alpine.

Officials say the black bear population is growing in southwest Michigan.
