HAMILTON, Mich. — While many memorial day parades have been canceled, organizers in two West Michigan communities held car parades despite the stay-at-home order.

Organizers started gathering at Hamilton Middle School starting at 7:30 a.m. Monday morning.

At 8 a.m. the group headed for a prayer ceremony at the Veteran's Memorial on M-40. The group stayed in their cars and practice social distancing.

State Representative Mary Whiteford also joined the parade along with area small businesses.

Over in Gun Lake, hundreds of cars participated in another Memorial Day car parade, driving 14 miles through Gun Lake, Yankee Township and Hastings.

Organizers say they held a car parade to promote social distancing.

We're told the group had support from the Barry County Sheriff Office which lead the parade and had a letter of support from the Barry County Health Department.
