KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Police are searching for a suspect after a Sunday morning shooting at a Kalamazoo house party.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety confirmed with Fox 17 that they are working to identify the host of the party and will look into charges regarding social distancing, or at least charge them under their nuisance party ordinance.

At 6:20 a.m. Sunday, KDPS responded to a report of a person who had been shot in the 900 block of Staples Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a male with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The victim refused treatment.

Investigating officers determined that the shooting had occurred during a house party in the same block of Staples. Officers went to the house but received no response. They obtained a search warrant, the Kalamazoo Metro SWAT Team was called in and during the search they located several firearms and evidence of the shooting.

A suspect was identified and officers are actively seeking him.
