COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man accused of breaking into a home, killing a father and shooting three police officers has been found competent to stand trial.

William Jones will be in court later this month to face charges in the fatal December home invasion in Comstock Township. He has pleaded not guilty to 19 charges against him in the incident.

Police spoke to both Jones and the family inside while driving to the home. When they arrived, they heard gunshots and went inside, leading to three officers being shot.

One of the homeowners, 22-year-old Christopher Neal, was killed in the shooting. Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller said Jones was the only person to fire any shots.

Jones’ next court date is scheduled for March 18.
